Annual Summer Picnic
Who doesn’t love a picnic – especially a Potluck Picnic! This alumni event has always been popular with our alumni. West High Cowboys always bring their favorite recipes to share. Some even bring something tasty that was previously published in the Alumni Cookbook!
The Westgate Park enclosed shelter house was a popular location until the rental price keep raising and the distance from the parking lot to the shelter house made it difficult for some alumni to navigate.
In recent years we have used the large Fellowship Hall of the Crossroads United Methodist Church, 1100 S. Hague Ave., as our picnic location. Their paved parking lot, full kitchen, and availability of cafeteria trays to carry our food – make it perfect for us.
Several alumni always scour westside businesses to obtain a large variety of door prizes. A couple of years ago, an alum donated one of the treasured and much sought-after Hilltop Kiwanis ‘Hilltop U.S.A. Afghan’ for a raffle that benefits the Alumni Scholarship Foundation.
While the food is always the highlight of the picnic, this is also a special time for alumni across many graduation years to meet, talk about West High during their years there, and remember the neighborhoods they lived in. Of course, name tags are necessary to help us recognize those we have not seen in a while!
All alumni, along with their family and friends, are invited to attend this free event. We do not even ask for a reservation. Just show up and enjoy!
The West High School Alumni summer picnic is held every year on the 4th Saturday in July. The Alumni Association provides Sloppy Joe’s and everyone in attendance brings a dish to share. It is a wonderful time to connect with graduates from many classes.
Anyone interested in donating a door prize please contact Vida Fulton Williams at .
Hope you can attend our next annual picnic in 2022. Details will be posted in the alumni newsletter and on our Facebook page.
