Homecoming - September 28, 2012
Some rode, some walked. And they all had fun. A quick 'photo op' before the Homecoming Parade started.

front row - Dick Robbins, Lynn Fullerton Johnson, Janice Mitchell Younkin, Becky Baker Jones, Ann Lehman Rogers

2nd row - in the float, seated and standing -
Carol Rood, Jane Athey VanFossen, Linda Dillon Pennington, Kay Minniear Jacobs (who came all the way from Middleton, MD!), Shirley Forgrave Nyhan, Debby Guenther Sharfenaker, Polly Williams Robbins, Dottie Clark

back row - David Holloway, Pam Wallar Duncan,
Carl Duncan
(Pam and Carl drove up from Sevierville, TN!), Lorraine Preston, Karen Martin Voltz,
Sharon Sharp Stout, Dan Rousch
(sorry he is mostly hidden!), Dan's wife from the '64 or '65 class),
Dorance Nichols Hornsby
, and the Cowboy cutout - from their 40th Class Reunion.

Most of the classmates wore their 'West High Class of 1963 - 50th Class Reunion' T-shirts. They looked pretty g-r-e-a-t!
The float is loaded and the parade is getting ready to start.

Sorry we caught all the ladies looking away, but they really stepped up and took one for the class. And they all looked as great as they did in 1963.

Riding in their Class of 1963 Homecoming car are Janice Mitchell Younkin, Queen Becky Baker Jones, and Ann Lehman Rogers.

Becky was really a good sport when Dottie put Halloween cobwebs in her 'crown.'

Rusty Jones '72 is driving the car with Herb Sharfenaker '62 riding 'shotgun.
Walking behind their float and throwing candy to the kids along the parade route are Dottie, Debby, and Beth.

Following them are several West students who also enjoyed walking the parade route along side the 2012 Homecoming king and queen candidates..

Although there weren't quite as many Westgate neighbors watching the Homecoming parade this year as there have been in past years, those who were out enjoyed the parade.

Many were sitting on their porches and watching out windows.

The West students decorated some vehicles for their Homecoming king and queen candidates to ride in.

A little blurry, but some of the Class of '63 former band members, Weskets, cheerleaders, and majorettes, along with a few others, marching from West High, down the alley to the south end of Magly Field.

The Alumni Band preceded them with the drums announcing the band and giving everyone a cadence to walk to.

Our group is waiting to take the field for the playing of the National Anthem.

Dottie, Linda, Polly, Becky, Pat, Carol, Beth, Wanda (with her back to us), John, and Dave.
Same as the previous picture but Debby has stepped in between Pat and Carol.
The 2012 West Weskets take the field.

Ron joined the group next to Dave.

The Alumni Band and the current West Band marches down the field lead by two former West Drum Majors.
The combined bands stand at attention prior to doing a Script "W." They hope to have enough Alumni Band members attend next year to do a complete
Script W-E-S-T!

Some of the '63 group watching the game:

front row - Wayne Messick, Polly, Dick, Bill Burke '59, and Wanda, and behind Wanda - Dan Roush's wife.

2nd row - Jane Athey VanFossen, Beverly Kimball Daugherty, Bill Daugherty ('62 Central H.S.)

3rd row - behind Bev - Debby Guenther Sharfenaker and Pat Pancoast Laderer, with her back to the camera - Kay Minniear Jacobs, Lynn Fullerton Johnson behind Kay, and in the brown jacket - Kay's husband - Bob Jacobs '62, and next to Bob - Sharon Sharp Stout

When Dottie Clark couldn't get two Class of '63 cheerleaders - Becky Baker Jones and Debby Guenther Sharfenaker, to come down to the field to cheer with the current cheerleader squad, Dottie cheered with them!

Before some of the '63 class went to the field to join the West Band and West Alumni Band for the half-time show, we got a quick photo!

Linda, Carol, Dottie, Polly, John, Pam, Beth, Pat, Wanda, Debby, and Kay
The '63 group marches in Script "W." Former majorette Pam is playing the cymbals and John a horn!
All of the '63 classmates who didn't march were proud to be represented by such a great looking group.

John and Pam march off the field.
The '63 group had a great time at the football game, but after half-time they left to start the party at O'Charley's.

Barb Garrett Carpenter chaired the post-Homecoming party Her daughter baked and decorated a wonderful cake for the group to enjoy.

At O'Charley's they sold raffle tickets for several great prizes they had garnered. The $175 in ticket sales will be used to help offset reunion expenses.

The 1963 Class Treasurer and also their Class Reunion treasurer, Lynn Fullerton Johnson is mixing up the raffle tickets for the first drawing.

Watching are Dennis Carpenter '62 and
Barb Garrett Carpenter
.
One long table and several booths were filled with classmates, spouses and friends.

Dottie won a round of golf at Oakhurst Golf Club.
Sitting in a corner booth - Harold 'Pinky' Pennington '62, Linda, Pam, and Carl
Lynn asked David Holloway to pull the first raffle ticket. On the left - Ron Weber and on the right - Dennis Carpenter.

Linda was the first winner and chose the football signed by 2-time Heisman Trophy winner and OSU standout Archie Griffin. Congratulations Linda!

Ron Weber's ticket was the 2nd drawn. He chose a one night stay at the Courtyard by Marriott, on Roberts Rd. during their 50th class reunion next June.

Debby learns she just won a $50 gift card set for dinner at Applebee's and a movie.

Wayne Messick won a T-shirt donated by one of the reunion committee members.

A little blurry, but Lowell Marx just won two free dinners at Minelli's. Next to Lowell is his wife, Linda Koffert Marx '65.

In the foreground is Karen Martin Voltz and
Wayne Messick
. Wayne was here all the way from Bronxville, NY!

Lowell pulls a raffle ticket. Susie Morgan, who purchased raffle tickets at the Homecoming Parade but couldn't make it to O'Charley's, won a round of golf for two at the Phoenix Golf Club.

The Phoenix is managed by their classmate - Charlie Castle. It is also where the Alumni Association has held their Alumni Golf Scramble the past five years.

After Barb's raffle ticket was drown, Lynn asked Barb which of the remaining door prizes she would like.

Barb and Dennis decided on the gift card to Emelio's on Georgesville, just south of Sullivant Ave.

O'Charley's wait staff treated the group very well, and the food was great.

The Class of '63 thanks all who donated items for the raffle. It netted $175 that will be used for their June 2013 reunion expenses.

After Lowell decided he probably wouldn't drive across town to use the Minelli's dinner certificate, Carol Rood became the lucky winner.

The classmates who gathered at O'Charley's got together for one last photo (except for Lowell Marx who left before the picture was taken).

seated - Sharon Sharp Stout, Carol Rood, Jane Athey VanFossen, Karen Martin Voltz, Wayne Messick, Ron Weber, David Holloway, Barb Garrett Carpenter

standing - Beth Lord Liming, John Frank, Kay Minniear Jacobs, Dick Robbins, Dottie Clark, Dorance Nichols Hornsby, Bev Kimball Daugherty, Debby Guenther Sharfenaker, Pat Pancoast Laderer, Polly Williams Robbins, Kathy McDaniel Baisden, Wanda Bailey Burke, Lynn Fullerton Johnson, Pam Wallar Duncan, Linda Dillon Pennington, Carl Duncan.
